I’m blindfolded in the back of a car, and I don’t like it. The only times when I like being blindfolded is when there’s a bed involved, and this is not one of those cartrips. Evan is taking me out for a surprise, and who am I to say no to her? She usually has great ideas anyway, except that one time she decided to fall in love with the Prez of Victorious.

“We there yet?” I ask.

“Almost,” she says, her hand holding mine while she strokes soothingly over the back of my hand. Her knee has been bouncing since she left the hotel and Kyle took us to our location. Which is top secret. I’ve already tried to bribe Kyle into telling me more, but he isn’t budging. It’s almost as if he’s working for Evan, and not for 4A. Traitor.

“Two minutes,” the head of security says.

“Are we going to go yodeling?” I ask.

She laughs. “Neither of us can sing, I don’t think yodeling would be any better. Besides, if we were to go yodeling, I would definitely take Xem with us, because he would look awesome in those mountain outfits, you know?”

“Lederhosen?”

“Yeah, those.”

I laugh out loud from the mental image that produces. My heart rate picks up when the car stops, and Kyle announces we’re here. Evan squeals, and I ask if I can take off my blindfold, which I can’t. She leads me out of the car, holding me by my elbow and leads me to God knows where. If we’re somewhere in the mountains and she leads me off the edge of an abyss, I’d willingly follow her. My trust in her is blind, and she hasn’t betrayed it yet since the whole leaving debacle.

I think I hear a door opening, and I think we’re heading inside somewhere, and then I’m stopped. Evan reaches around me and unties my blindfold, and when I blink against the light, I find myself in an orchestra hall. And not just any orchestra hall…

“It’s Hofburg,” she says, very pleased with herself, looking up at me with glee in her eyes. “It’s where the Hofburg orchestra plays. And Mozart played here. I thought maybe you’d for once like to play where your namesake played.” Suddenly she bites her bottom lip, looking insecure. “I know you’re rock and all, and you don’t want to play in a classical orchestra, and you don’t want to please your parents. But I thought maybe you’d want to play here, just for you.”

I grab her hands and stare at her, unsure what it is I’m experiencing exactly.

“Just because you’re a rock star doesn’t mean that classical music isn’t a part of you as well,” she continues. “Every time I look at you play, you become music. You breathe it, ooze it, exude it. And I personally think it’d be a shame to deny yourself to enjoy every part of that musicality.”

I look around, finding a stage full of instruments. They belong to the orchestra, because the artists will have taken their own instruments with them.
